[ It's been a long time since Albasani discarded one of my posts. I'll
try again. ]
Has anyone hereabouts spent time with the Barry Harris instructional
materials? I see he has a 4-dvd 200-pg Part 1, and a Part 2 as well.
Note I don't *need* these in order to play guitar or jazz, but it
intrigues. So 'get the joe pass book' or 'just learn standards', not
necessary.
I went through Alan Kingsolver's version of BH material and though I
found it very interesting and provocative, I didn't really incorporate
it much. Then I got Pasquale Grasso's videos and again found no great
satori, but it was compelling. And I did incorporate some of
Pasquale's input, though much of that didn't seem directly from Barry.
Now, quite a while later, I find myself naturally drifting in and out
of some of his M6dim and m6dim scales, as well as finding myself
consistenly delvingh into dim and m6 harmony (including associated 9th,
m7b5, #5b9, sus4b9 structures). It's just leaching in of its own
accord.
So I figured I'd take a look at the source. I posted something similar
a week ago or so and in the meantime I just bought the thing and I'll
see what value it has when it arrives.
Still, any thoughts on the matter(s) are welcomed.
